Equinox Gold is a growth-focused, Canadian-based gold mining company with the vision of becoming the Premier Americas Gold Producer. The Company was founded by Ross Beaty, arguably our generation's most successful resource entrepreneur and a well-known philanthropist. Ross is Equinox Gold's Chairman and largest individual shareholder, and kick-started the Company's vision of building a diversified, Americas-focused gold company that will responsibly and safely produce more than one million ounces of gold annually, bring long-term social and economic benefits to its host communities, create a safe and rewarding workplace for its employees and contractors, and provide above average investment returns to its shareholders.
Since starting the Company at the end of 2017, Equinox Gold has acquired one mine and two companies, constructed and achieved production at three mines, sold two of its smaller mines and created three new companies. Today Equinox Gold has four operating mines in Brazil, one in Mexico and two in California, and in May 2024 will pour gold at its first Canadian mine: the Greenstone Mine in Geraldton, Ontario.
After more than 15 years of technical studies and planning, and 2.5 years of construction, Greenstone Mine will achieve production in the first half of 2024, as promised, an incredible achievement for the Equinox Gold team. Greenstone Mine will be the Company's largest and lowest-cost mine, and one of the largest open-pit gold mines in Canada, with production estimated at more than 400,000 ounces a year for the first five years with 60% attributable to Equinox Gold.
To achieve its longer-term growth objectives and reach its target of producing more than one million ounces of gold annually, Equinox Gold intends to expand and extend production from its current asset base through exploration and development and will look for opportunities to acquire other companies, producing mines and/or development projects that fit the Company's portfolio and strategy.
