About

Ride to Greenstone

What was the Equinox Gold Ride to Greenstone?

The main event was a 24-day bike relay that left Vancouver, BC on August 5, 2024, and concluded on August 28, 2024, at the opening ceremony for our new Greenstone Mine in Geraldton, Ontario. In addition to celebrating the opening of Greenstone Mine, the event raised money for the Geraldton District Hospital, which serves a 2,767-km² region in Northern Ontario, including five Indigenous communities and the Greenstone Mine workforce.

Why the Ride to Greenstone?

This event had three main goals: to celebrate the opening of Greenstone Mine, to create team-building opportunities across the company, and to raise much-needed funds for charities in the communities where we lived and worked. We aimed to make the opening of Greenstone Mine an unforgettable milestone for Equinox Gold, our team, our supporters, our community partners, and the Canadian mining industry!

Why Should You Have Gotten Involved?

To honor this ambitious journey, we invited our vendors, contractors, and industry leaders to donate to the Geraldton District Hospital or to a charity in their local region. Sponsorship in the Ride to Greenstone event served as a powerful demonstration of each company's commitment to social responsibility, community well-being, and sustainable resource development within the mining industry and its supply chain. This partnership highlighted sponsors as leaders who actively contributed to positive change, further enhancing loyalty and engagement both within the mining industry and beyond, as we showcased the event globally to over 100,000 social media followers, 6,000 email subscribers, nearly 20,000 investors, and countless stakeholders.

Route & Timeline

The ride started at our corporate headquarters in Vancouver, BC, on August 5, 2024. The approximately 3,634-km journey was divided into six separate stages, with each stage divided into six to nine segments based on terrain, averaging 97 km per segment. Employees from our corporate office and each of our mine sites volunteered to cycle one stage, which meant cycling about 97 km per day for three or four days in a row. Riders were accompanied by a support team to ensure the trip was both safe and enjoyable. Cyclists and support crew flew in and out of five major hubs (Kelowna, Calgary, Saskatoon, Winnipeg, Thunder Bay) at the start and end of each stage.

Why We're Doing This

Achieving production at our new Greenstone Mine was transformative for Equinox Gold, and we wanted to celebrate this achievement in a big way. We aimed to bring our team together, do something fun, and give back to the community that would host us in the years to come while Greenstone Mine operates. Many of our team members are avid cyclists, so the idea to cycle across Canada was born—to celebrate, have fun, encourage active lifestyles, raise significant funds for the Geraldton District Hospital, and make the opening of Greenstone Mine an unforgettable event!
