About

Ride to Greenstone

What is the Equinox Gold Ride to Greenstone?

The main event is a 24-day bike relay leaving Vancouver, BC on August 5, 2024 and ending on August 28, 2024 at the mine opening ceremony for our new Greenstone Mine in Geraldton, Ontario. In addition to celebrating the opening of Greenstone Mine, the event will raise money for the Geraldton District Hospital, which serves a 2,767-km2 region in Northern Ontario including five Indigenous communities and the Greenstone Mine workforce.

Why the Ride to Greenstone?

This event has three main goals: to celebrate the opening of Greenstone Mine, to create team-building opportunities company wide, and to raise much-needed funds for charities in the communities where we live and work. We intend to make the opening of Greenstone Mine an unforgettable achievement for Equinox Gold, our team, our supporters, our community partners and the Canadian mining industry!

Why should you get involved?

To acknowledge this ambitious journey, we're asking our vendors, contractors and industry leaders to donate money to the Geraldton District Hospital or to the charity in your local region. Your company's involvement as a sponsor of the Ride to Greenstone event will serve as a powerful demonstration of your commitment to social responsibility, community well-being and sustainable resource development within the mining industry and its supply chain. Through this partnership, you will be highlighted as a leader that actively contributes to positive change, further enhancing customer loyalty and engagement both within the mining industry and beyond, as we showcase the event on a global stage to our more than 100,000 social media followers, 6,000 email subscribers, nearly 20,000 investors and countless stakeholders.

Route & Timeline

We'll start the ride at our corporate headquarters in Vancouver, BC on August 5, 2024. The approximately 3,634-km journey has been divided into has been divided into six separate stages and each stage has been divided into six to nine segments, depending on the terrain, with each segment averaging 97 km in length. Employees from our corporate office and from each of our mine sites have volunteered to cycle one stage of the trip, which means they'll cycle approximately 97 km each day, three or four days in a row. The riders will be accompanied by a support team to ensure the trip is both safe and enjoyable. Cyclists and support crew will fly in/out of five major hubs (Kelowna, Calgary, Saskatoon, Winnipeg, Thunder Bay) at the start/end of each stage.

Why We're Doing This

Achieving production at our new Greenstone Mine will be transformative for Equinox Gold, and we wanted to celebrate this achievement in a big way. We wanted to bring our team together and do something fun, and we wanted to give back to the community that will be our host for the years to come while Greenstone Mine is operating. Lots of people in our company are avid cyclists, so the idea was born to cycle across Canada to celebrate, to have fun, to encourage active lifestyles, to raise a lot of money for the Geraldton Hospital, and to make the opening of Greenstone Mine an unforgettable event!

Cyclists & Support Crew

The cyclists have been training since early spring to be sure they're both physically and mentally prepared for the journey. The cyclists will be supported by a team of logistics personnel providing driving, first aid, mechanical and moral support. On behalf of Equinox Gold and the Geraldton District Hospital, we wish the team luck and thank them for their contribution to this exciting event!
